'AI' is the title - ML is the contender

There are very many machine learning approaches ranging from the mundane linear models to the most exotic deep learning architectures. One this is clear, none of them––in its raw glory––is sufficient to claim the title of artificial intelligence even though the aspiration to create even more powerful models obtains. However, the stumbling block that perenially stagnates the advance towards more powerful models occurs whenever a tiny subset of machine learning models garner the title of 'artificial intelligence' sufficient to conflate its application with the attainment of the holy grail. Then, for several years, as we ride the hype cycle, we whip up a storm that effectively clouds our judgement. Once the dust settles and realise the error of our ways we dejectedly trudge onwards in pursuit of the next machine learning victim.
