The solo developer can appear to cover far more ground than a team until the rest of the team needs to contribute. Only then will it be clear how coupled the developer was to the project. If a developer is essential for a project to function then that project is doomed. This is why good practice is essential. The longevity of a project depends on it.
Celebrating expedience at the expense of quality is a recipe for disaster. And it makes the work experience thoroughly unpleasant. Yuk!
